Your Guide to the SEAI Solar PV Grant in 2025

Thinking about installing solar panels on your home? The SEAI Solar PV Grant is here to make the switch more affordable. Designed to reduce the upfront cost of solar panels, this government support helps Irish homeowners generate their own clean electricity, cut energy bills, and invest in a more sustainable future.

Solar Panels Technicians

The grant, offered by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI), gives homeowners financial support toward the cost of a solar PV system. It covers part of the installation – including panels, inverters, and equipment – so you don’t have to shoulder the full investment.

With 0% VAT now applying to solar systems and the option to sell surplus electricity back to the grid, there has never been a better time to consider solar.

Updated Grant Amounts for 2025

From 1st January 2025, the grant is set at a maximum of €1,800 (previously €2,100). The amount depends on the size of your solar system:

  • €700 per kWp for the first 2 kWp

  • €200 per kWp for the next 2 kWp

That means the full €1,800 is available on systems up to around 4 kWp.

Quick tip: kWp (kilowatt-peak) is a measure of how much electricity your solar system can produce under peak sunlight conditions.

Who Can Apply?

You may be eligible if:

  • Your home was built and occupied before 31st December 2020

  • Your property has not already received an SEAI grant for solar PV under the same MPRN (Meter Point Reference Number)

  • You apply before installation begins

  • You’re a homeowner (including private landlords)

How the Process Works

Applying for the SEAI Solar PV Grant is simple. Here’s what to expect:

  1. Choose an SEAI-registered installer – JW Group is fully registered.

  2. Apply online to SEAI and wait for your official Letter of Offer.

  3. Installation – once approved, we’ll install your solar panels.

  4. BER assessment – your Building Energy Rating is updated after installation.

  5. Paperwork submitted – we handle the necessary forms for you.

  6. Grant payment – SEAI issues the grant directly to you.

Timelines & Conditions to Keep in Mind

  • You’ll have 8 months from the approval date to complete installation and submit documents.

  • Only the Letter of Offer confirms your grant – draft applications don’t secure funding.

  • If you change installer after applying, you’ll need to reapply.
